I'm pissed.

I has been brought to my attention that for Memorial Day weekend our lovely president is going on vacation to his family home in Chicago.  So, instead of going to Arlington National cemetery for the wreath laying ceremony, to support our fallen heroes like we do EVERY YEAR, he is going to go Chicago. Nice. That's very American of you Obama. That's exactly what you need to be doing as CIC of our military.
I can't even wrap my mind around that.  Has any other president ever done this? I'm asking honestly here, ever?

These were borrowed from the lovely Christina. I hope she doesn't mind! And you should definitely go read her blog. She wrote a fantastic blog for Memorial Day.

  3. From an article I read about this: George H. W. Bush was on the campaign trail in 1992 and scheduled to speak at an American Legions event in Maine on Memorial Day.

Ronald Reagan was in the midst of a contentious economic summit in 1983 and so sent George H. W. Bush on his behalf.

Personally though, I think it's a slap in the face to the troops. The two presidents who sent someone else had a reason to do with their time in office. He on the other hand is just taking a vacation.

  4. Other Presidents have in fact done so and left their VP in charge of the ceremony.

In '07 Cheney went instead of Bush.
In '01 Quayle went instead of Bush Sr.
In '83 neither Reagan nor Bush Sr. (his VP) went due to a cabinet meeting....

I'm not saying it's right. Why bother being President if you leave it all to your VP?

  8. Yes, but they were at summits and speeches... not drinking beer and chillin' at their family homes.

  9. my husband just told me that the reason Obama is not going and the reason other Presidents in the past have sent there VPs,(Bush sent Cheney in '07) is because it's an unwritten rule that you SHOULDN'T go if you've never fought. Neither Obama or Biden have served in the millitary. If he did go it would offend too. just thought i'd throw that in there. :)

  11. I didn't mean to make that sound like fact because obviously it's not. I was just trying to say that some people (like my husband and some veterans- i've read a few blogs where veterans have stated that they are relieved he won't be there) just think that if you haven't served you don't deserve to participate. I also didn't think Biden (who hasn't served either) was going but apparently he is. I wasn't trying to offend or anything.. I don't think someone who hasn't served in the millitary even deserves to be President but that's my opinion.

  12. I read about Obama after I had posted my blog. I had to grit my teeth. Even if he nor his VP have served in the Military, They should in some way show their respect for it. I don't feel this way just because it is Obama, I would feel this way if it were any president. I think, by him deciding to take a "Vacation" that he is spitting on the American Military and the veterans as well.

  13. oh no, you didnt offend :), and now that you've brought it up, I agree, he SHOULDNT be there, he doesn't deserve it, but I agree also that he should pay his respects in some other way.

  14. I completely agree that he should pay his respects in some way, not go on Vacation. I just think if he went to the Wreath Laying Ceremony it would only be for approval ratings. I don't think he deserves to be there at all.
